You read that right: salmon sperm. Or, as clinics call it, PDRN or salmon DNA. A few years ago nobody would have put salmon and facials in the same sentence. Today it is one of the most viral beauty treatments in the world: famous actresses and singers talk about it in interviews, social media filled up with “before and after” posts and Google searches took off. And it is not just curiosity. It is the result: skin that glows, without the face changing.

The Korean secret. In Seoul the goal is not a new face. It is “glass skin”: skin so smooth, hydrated and radiant that it seems lit from within. Korean clinics have used PDRN since 2014, and today it is one of their favourite treatments.

What is PDRN? Purified fragments of salmon DNA, so compatible with human skin that its cells recognise them and use them as their own renewal materials. It is called that because the DNA comes from the salmon’s reproductive material. The serum holds only purified DNA fragments, polynucleotides (PDRN).
For practical reasons. Salmon reproductive material is one of the richest sources of DNA in nature and can be purified to a very high degree, so only the DNA fragments end up in the serum. The “letters” of DNA are the same in every living thing, which is why the skin accepts them well. So your skin gets exactly the materials it needs to renew itself.
