Treatment characteristics

Treatment duration:

A 45-minute appointment with the doctor: 15 minutes of analysis, 10 for the numbing cream and about 20 for the treatment itself.

What is used:

Hyaluronic acid filler — Teosyal or Restylane, the top-grade products on the market.

Anaesthetic:

The product itself contains anaesthetic, and a topical numbing cream goes on about 10 minutes beforehand.

Downtime:

Some swelling is normal, mostly in the first 24 hours, and small bruises are possible. The final result shows at about 14 days.

How long it lasts:

8 to 12 months, depending on your metabolism, smoking, hard exercise and sun exposure.

Who performs it:

A doctor, always. This treatment is never carried out by an aesthetician.

Price from:

€250, with Teosyal or Restylane. The appointment with the doctor is held with a €50 deposit, which comes off the price — so you pay €200 at the clinic.

Treatment steps

Assessment

The doctor looks at your lips and the tissue around them as part of your whole face, and listens to what you want. You decide together what is needed — and what is not. About 15 minutes, part of the appointment.

Numbing

A topical cream goes on and is left for about ten minutes; the product also contains its own anaesthetic.

The treatment

The filler is placed with a fine needle or a cannula, a little at a time, with the doctor checking the shape with you as it goes. About 20 minutes — most people describe pressure rather than pain.

Straight afterwards

Ice, and the aftercare list. You can go back to your day straight away; some swelling in the first 24 hours is normal.

Two-week review

The lips settle over about two weeks. You come back so the doctor can see the result — that second visit is included in the price. If you would like a little more, you decide it together then; added product is quoted separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does it hurt?

Less than most people expect. A numbing cream goes on about ten minutes beforehand, and the fillers we use contain a local anaesthetic of their own. Most describe it as pressure rather than pain.

How long does it last?

8 to 12 months, depending on your metabolism, smoking, hard exercise and sun. It is not permanent — and because it fades, you stay in control.

Will it be obvious?

That is decided at the assessment, not at the injection. Filler placed well is a change people read as "you look well", not as work. If you want something more noticeable, say so and the doctor will tell you honestly whether it suits your face.

How swollen will I be?

Some swelling is normal, most of it in the first 24 hours — that is not the result. Small bruises are possible. You see the result at about 14 days, so do not book it in the same week as a wedding or a holiday.

What should I avoid afterwards?

For twenty-four hours: no gym, no sauna, no alcohol, and no pressing or massaging the lips. Sleep on your back that first night if you can.

Can it be dissolved if I do not like it?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. We do this, €130, including for filler that was placed somewhere else.

What does it cost?

Can I have it while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. We do not perform injectable treatments during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
